About the role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and driven XP Workshop Supervisor to join JCB Heavy Products. Reporting to the Operations Manager. You will lead the XP Workshop team, playing a key role in supporting product development activities and ensuring engineering priorities are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
The XP (Experimental) workshop is where new and exciting products are brought to life. JCB is highly focused on introducing and developing new products and of course innovation. As the Workshop Supervisor, you will be responsible for coordinating workshop operations, managing resources and workload, developing a high-performing team, and providing support to key stakeholders across Engineering, Design, Development, Manufacturing and Production. You will be instrumental in creating an environment that enables innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement, whilst maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and operational excellence. • Leading, motivating and developing the XP Workshop team to create a positive, collaborative and high-performing working environment.
• Coaching and supporting team members, including apprentices and less experienced colleagues, to help them achieve their full potential.
• Managing and prioritising Engineering Instructions (E.I.s) to ensure workshop activities align with business and engineering requirements.
• Planning and coordinating workshop resources and manpower to meet changing demands and project priorities.
• Working closely with Product Groups, Design Teams, Development Engineers, Manufacturing and Production teams to support product development activities.
• Ensuring all workshop activities are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
• Monitoring workshop performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.
• Maintaining compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies and workshop procedures.
• Managing and investigating hazards, near misses and incidents, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
• Ensuring adequate IOSH, First Aid and Fire Warden coverage is maintained within the team.
• Promoting and maintaining high standards of housekeeping and 5S throughout the workshop environment.
• Managing workshop tools, equipment and consumables, ensuring resources are available and fit for purpose.
• Reporting and coordinating maintenance requirements to minimise disruption to operations.
• Maintaining accurate records relating to workshop assets, including retained, sold and scrapped items.
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives, managing PCM boards and ensuring actions are completed in a timely manner.
• Supporting the introduction of new processes, systems and ways of working to improve workshop performance and capability.

• You have previous experience leading and developing teams within a workshop, manufacturing, engineering or technical environment.
• You’re a confident people leader who enjoys coaching, mentoring and supporting others to succeed.
• You have excellent organisational skills and can effectively balance multiple priorities in a busy operational setting.
• You’re a experienced in planning resources, coordinating workloads and ensuring work is delivered to agreed timescales.
• You can build strong working relationships and collaborate effectively with Engineering, Design, Development, Manufacturing and Production teams.
• You have a strong commitment to Health & Safety and take pride in maintaining high standards of compliance.
• You’re a proactive problem solver who can make sound decisions and drive solutions through to completion.
• You’re a passionate about continuous improvement and enjoy identifying opportunities to improve processes, efficiency and performance.
• You have a good understanding of lean manufacturing principles, including 5S (desirable).
• You have knowledge of Process Validation requirements (desirable).
• You possess mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge (desirable).
• You have previous experience supporting product development or prototype build activities (desirable).
